- DANISH BROWN LEGHORNS —
Hens are brown and roosters are colorful.
Non-setters and excellent layers of white eggs.
Color makes them hard for predators to detect.
- NEW HAMPSHIRE REDS —
Chestnut red in color. Very good layer of large
brown eggs. Popular dual-purpose breed.
- SILVER OR GOLDEN LACED WYANDOTTES
— Short, deep, wide-bodied bird. Lay good sized
brown eggs. Dual-purpose bird that is hardy and
active.
- MOTTLED ANCONAS —
Very active, popular non-setter. Producer of white
eggs. Black with white tipped feathers.
- BUFF ORPINGTONS — Golden
as the sunset. Deep-meated. Layers of big, brown
eggs. Make wonderful mothers.
- BLACK AND BUFF MINORCAS —
Black or buff color with white ear lobes. They are
the largest breed of white egg layers. White skin
instead of yellow.
- BLACK AUSTRALORPS —
Black with greenish sheen. Excellent layer of brown
eggs. Very good layer even in hot weather.
Dual-purpose bird.
- BUFF ORPINGTONS —
Golden buff color, Good, popular layer of brown
eggs. A broody breed and usually good mothers.
- AMERICANAS —
Multi-colored birds that are excellent layers of
blue and green eggs. They have beards, muffs, and
tailheads but not tufts.
- BUFF, DARK AND LIGHT BRAHMAS
— Dual-purpose brown egg variety, Beautiful, massive
bodies with a docile nature.
- BLACK JERSEY GIANT — Large
black bird. Excellent bird for meat. Not a good egg
layer. They grow slower than broilers.
- GOLDEN OR SILVER LAKENVELDERS —
Relatively small, very active, good producers of
white eggs. Known for their unique color plumage
pattern.
- BUFF OR PARTRIDGE ROCKS —
Medium size with a quiet disposition. Good layer of
brown eggs.
- DELAWARES — Docile white
bird which is more decorative than solid white
birds. Good layers of brown eggs.
- NAKED NECK TURKENS — Very
good layer of multi-colored eggs. No feathers on the
neck and only half as many on the body.
- SILVER PHOENIX —
Long-tailed oriental breed. Males are silvery,
white, and black; females are salmon, gray, and
black.
- SILVER SPANGLED HAMBURGS —
Alert, active foragers. Excellent layers of white
eggs. Popular exhibition variety, and also a
non-setter.
- BLUE ANDALUSIONS —-
Very good layer of white eggs. Hardy, excellent
foragers. The blue laced color does not breed true.
- COCHINS — Most
docile of all breeds. Fluffy plumage makes them
appear to weigh more than they actually weigh.
- BUTTERCUPS — Owes
its name to its cup-shaped comb and color of its
plumage. Good producers of white eggs.
- DARK AND RED LACED CORNISH —
Very hardy and slow growing. Not a good egg layer.
Have firm meat with less fat than the Cornish Cross.
- SILVER OR GOLDEN CAMPINES
— Excellent layers of white eggs that normally
do not go broody. Kept for their beautiful color
pattern.
- EGYPTIAN FAYOUMI —
Very rare breed. Early maturing and very hardy.
Small breed that lays white or cream eggs and has a
tendency to go broody.
- MOTTLED HOUDANS — A very
unique appearance with a crest of plumage on their
heads. A rare breed kept for their uniqueness.
- POLISH — Ornamental fowl
with a crown of plumage on their heads. Lays white
eggs. Kept for their beauty and for exhibition.
- Red Jungle Fowl
- Very rare and smaller than all standard
breeds. All of the present varieties of chickens
descended from the Jungle Fowl.
